Geochemical partitioning and possible heavy metal(loid) bioaccumulation within aquaculture shrimp ponds

چکیده

Limited work has been conducted on trace metal(loid) exchange between sediment, water, feed, and shrimp, particularly in estuarine aquaculture environments. To identify sources the processes controlling bioaccumulation we analyzed paired shrimp samples collected Southwest Bangladesh late dry season (May), as well several common artificial feeds. Additionally, sediment extract from 24-hour laboratory batch experiments an analogue for pond porewater to examine element mobilization sediment. Weak correlations concentrations extracts, bulk indicate equilibrium with was not achieved or ponds, that composition little influence water composition. Aquaculture were similar feed but suggesting is mostly influenced by diet. Although arsenic (As) selenium (Se) present at high waters they often below detection shrimp. However, highly toxic metal thallium (Tl) detected levels pose significant human health risks based calculated target hazard quotient (THQ) values. Thus, further research into potential Tl contamination environments warranted.

Bioaccumulation of heavy metals in muscle tissue of fishes from selected aquaculture ponds in east Kolkata wetlands

Heavy metals i.e. Copper (Cu), Zinc (Zn), Manganese (Mn), Iron (Fe), Cadmium (Cd), Nickel (Ni), Mercury (Hg) and Arsenic (As) were analyzed in 35 samples of the fish muscle, from East Kolkata Wetlands (EKW). The concentration of heavy metals was in order of, Fe > Zn > Cu > Mn > Ni > As > Hg > Cd. The essential metals, such as iron, zinc, copper and manganese were in higher concentrations and, t...

An approach to valuing ponds within farming systems for aquaculture

water is an unconventional economic good because it is:-a 'fugitive' and re-usable good,-a public good and often under common property regime,-a stochastically supplied and distributed resource,-subject to economies of scale in provision,-essential to plant and animal life, with no substitute,-associated with many non-market environmental qualities and values. In the context of arid and semi-ar...

Blue Crab Aquaculture in Ponds

North Carolina’s Blue Crab Fishery As North Carolina’s number one fishery, blue crabs, Callinectes sapidus, are part of an important industry for numerous coastal communities. The fishery supports commercial fishermen, dealers, gear providers and processors throughout the year. Fluctuations in landings have led to concerns over crab populations and the livelihood of the commercial crabbers they...

Vibriosis in Shrimp Aquaculture

Aquaculture is the fastest growing food sector globally and is established itself as high protein resource to fulfill the food demand since the natural resources exhibits over exploitation. But, presently, the biggest problem faced by the aquaculture industry worldwide is diseases caused due to various biological and non-biological agents. Among the groups of microorganisms that cause serious l...

Metal and metalloid bioaccumulation in the Pacific blue shrimp Litopenaeus stylirostris (Stimpson) from New Caledonia: laboratory and field studies.

The present work aimed at better understanding metal and metalloid bioaccumulation in the edible Pacific blue shrimp Litopenaeus stylirostris, using both laboratory and field approaches. In the laboratory, the bioaccumulation kinetics of Ag, Cd, Co, Cr, and Zn have been investigated in shrimp exposed via seawater and food, using the corresponding gamma-emitting radiotracers ((110 m)Ag, (109)Cd,...
